2023 BMW i7 or: How an Electric Car Killed Movie Theaters
Some blame the pandemic for the demise of traditional movie theaters—gross box office earnings dropped from $11 billion to $2 billion in 2020—but germs may not be the thing that puts a nail in the theatergoing coffin. Instead, cinema’s assassin could very well be the uber-luxurious 2023 BMW i7 electric car.
We know what you’re thinking: “That’s crazy. How could an inanimate electric luxury sedan dismantle a multibillion-dollar industry?” Once you experience the glorious back seat of the i7, you’ll change your tune. Welcome to the future of EVs.
Limo Amenities
Chosen as one of Wards 10 Best Interiors & UX winners, the new BMW i7 electric boasts perhaps the best premium electric car feature this side of the Rio Grande. We are, of course, talking about its absolutely enormous 31.3″ 8K theater screen. (Just… take a gander.)
That mesmerizing dropdown screen is kitted with Amazon Fire TV for 5G streaming and an HDMI input for on-person gizmos and gadgets. Users can control the screen and all back-seat features using their own personal 5.5″ touchscreens, which are situated within the doors’ armrests. Everything’s connected to BMW’s 36-speaker Bowers & Wilkins surround sound system, too, which is plenty of audible icing on this lux cake we call an EV. No other electric vehicle on the market comes with anything like this tour de force that BMW’s unleashed on the world.
Even without the cinephile-catering screen, BMW i7’s backseat is what dreams are made of. In addition to a fold-down movie theater display, i7 offers five-star treatment from floor to roof.
Standard on all i7 trims is a Panoramic Sky Lounge LED Roof, which features customizable colored lighting effects. (The Roof even dims when the screen comes down, just like a real movie theater.) To add some flavor to the mix, the i7 also comes with dynamic light carpet.
Merino Leather rear seats are available with ventilation, heat and massage functions, and passenger-side riders can even prop their legs up with the optional reclining footrest. It’s basically a first-class plane seat, minus the 35,000 feet separating you from Earth.
We could ramble off other specs and stats to entice you to buy or lease an i7 – it gets over 300 miles of range on a single charge, for instance – but when you’re looking at EVs over $100k, what it really boils down to is amenities. And, in our opinion, the 2023 BMW i7 is the coolest, best electric vehicle within that price range. Out of the box, the i7 has everything aside from a full-time chauffeur—and who’s to say those clever German engineers aren’t already working on that.

With a starting MSRP of over $100,000, the BMW i7 isn’t one of the top 10 affordable electric cars on the market. But with an unprecedented range of high-end features, excellent MPGe and that succulent BMW emblem adhered to the hood, the i7 isn’t trying to be the cheapest EV money can buy. Instead, it’s trying-nay, accomplishing its task of creating the best electric sedan, period.
