2026 BMW iX Refresh: What’s New?

The all-electric iX came on the scene a few years ago as one of the marque’s flagship EVs, and since then, it’s developed a reputation as one of the best EV SUVs for families looking to experience luxury the way that only BMW can deliver.
Last month, we received official confirmation that the 2026 model year would see some exciting new updates, including increased range, more power, and a host of stylistic punch-ups.
Here’s everything you need to know about the changes to the 2026 BMW iX.
Updated Models and BMX iX Trims
The 2025 BMW iX lineup has two available models, the iX xDrive50 and the iX M60. For the 2026 model, this hierarchy will be completely redone.
The new roster has three models, each with their own unique capabilities. Here’s a quick breakdown:
- iX xDrive45
- 402 horsepower
- 312 miles of estimated range
- iX xDrive60
- 536 horsepower
- 340 miles of estimated range
- iX M70 xDrive
- 650 horsepower
- 302 miles of estimated range
This new selection of available powertrains provides a shakeup to the iX’s performance specs while still delivering the same excellent dynamics that it’s become known for.
2026 BMW iX Performance
With three incredibly powerful new models, it’s no surprise that the newly updated iX is looking like it’ll be one of the fastest EVs on the market. The base-level xDrive45 has a 0 to 60 time of just 4.9 seconds, while the xDrive60 does 0 to 60 in 4.4 seconds.
If that weren’t enough, the top-level M70 xDrive is said to have a max torque of 811 pound-feet when Launch Control is activated, allowing it to go from 0 to 60 in 3.6 seconds and achieve a top speed of 155 miles per hour.
Aside from the burlier powertrain options, the iX is getting a ton of other updates to boost the driving fun to new heights, including:
- Recalibrated suspension and damping
- Upgrades wheel bearings for reduced weight and friction
- Available adaptive two-axle air suspension
- Available M Sport brakes
2026 BMW iX Range and Charging
Several improvements have been made to the battery and electric motor architecture to allow the iX to travel farther on a single charge—it now has up to 340 miles of range in the xDrive60, a significant increase over the previous model year, which had a max range of 309 miles.
Adaptive recuperation has also been improved to improve range even further. This feature uses the intelligent drive control system to alter the amount of energy recovery based on traffic conditions. Drivers can also manually select the level of energy recovery to allow a zero-energy coasting function. In a pinch, the EFFICIENT My Mode can be selected to increase the remaining range by up to 25%.
According to BMW, one of the biggest changes is the introduction of silicon carbide semiconductor technology, which increases efficiency by a wide margin. This marks the first time this tech has been used in a BMW EV.
2026 BMW iX Exterior
For this model year, the iX receives some subtle yet important appearance touch-ups. The iconic BMW grille gets some new diagonal linework and available illumination settings, and the headlights receive an updated layout that echoes the grille. The rear and side profiles have been tweaked as well, with a new apron and new tailgate proportions. Overall, the design language is simplified to do more with less.

Updated wheel and paint color options are now available as well. New 2026 BMW iX colors include Carbon Black metallic, Dune Grey metallic, Arctic Race Blue metallic, Tanzanite Blue metallic, and BMW Individual Frozen Deep Grey metallic.
2026 BMW iX Technology and Features
The iX was the very first BMW vehicle to feature the slick 14.9-inch BMW Curved Display, and for 2026, it’s set to receive an updated version of BMW Operating System 8.5. This new software is even more intuitive and configurable, allowing for an improved media and navigation experience.

The BMW Personal Assistant is also upgraded, and the available BMW Live Cockpit Professional enhances the in-cabin experience even further with augmented reality and a head-up display.
As expected, the 2026 iX will also come complete with a plethora of standard and available safety features, including Driving Assistant Plus, which comes with Forward Collision Mitigation, Active Blind Spot Detection, Lane Keeping Assistant, Speed Limit Assistant, Distance Control, Steering Assistant, and Active Speed Limit Assist. The BMW highway Assistant is also available as a top-line feature, which enables semi-automated driving on compatible roads.

2026 BMW iX Release Date
As of right now, BMW says that production of the 2026 model is set to start in March of 2025, with deliveries expected to begin a couple months later during the first half of the year.
